The need for speed…
We've got an unfortunate MGB Roadster in the bodyshop at the moment, which has been in an accident that has bent the main side member in the engine bay. On the bright side the car is being repaired; it has been stripped right back to reveal the full extent of any damage, but proceedings have come to a temporary halt as we cannot find a replacement chassis rail anywhere. That can be a problem on classics, even ones as well-catered to as the MGB, because parts that get produced in batches can suffer from temporary supply issues.
Also in a slight holding pattern is the Morris Minor saloon that has recently arrived. This has been sitting on a driveway for some time, and the owner now wants it reconditioned. That is not a problem as parts supply for the Minor is every bit as good as it is for the MGB, but this one does need a lot of work, far more in fact than is immediately apparent. It is running, but we are currently at the assessment stage before the owner makes a final decision on how they want to proceed.
On the forecourt we are very low on classics for sale. We did just have the Mustang and a late-model MGB Roadster that is a bit of a project, so we are very pleased to have just picked up this rubber bumper BGT with a sunroof. It is in beautiful condition with a walnut dash and reupholstered part leather seats. We have been looking after this one over its last two owners and believe it will be re-homed quickly due to the interior detail and how well it drives. It’s great to have such a good looking rubber bumper on the forecourt.
There is another BGT lurking about, but that one is not for sale because it is Steve's first ever race car. It has been loaned out over the years to a number of close friends, but Danny is now campaigning it. Only recently he was out at an Autotest at Spilsby Airfield and won overall for the first time with some excellent times, all under the one minute mark.
On the ramp is a Caterham that has been here for far too long. It came in for a radiator change, but while it was here the owner sent the engine away to have that rebuilt and it has taken forever for us to get that back. It is going out this week, and we expect it will be out on track very soon afterwards.
